What is Danya's Gift?

Mahalo Olelo PSA service for creating this PSA for us to help us spread the word about what we do.

Do you have a Danya's Gift story?

Over the past 10 years we've delivered items to over 5,000 families. When donations are slow to come in to meet the need we look to the few stories we have of how the donated items have helped people. If you have been helped by Danya's Gift please share your story on our share your story page. Email us your story at Danyasgift@gmail.com
Or you can follow this link to tell your story direct to donors on our facebook page.

What does your donation do?

Danya's Gift is a 501 c(3) non profit. We currently do not have paid staff. All of your donations go toward our giving goals with the hospital.

Each month the hospital requests
40 hygiene kits
30 bedside organizers
15 sibling suprise bags
6 caylee couture gowns
and 10  family bags.

All of these cost between 16- 25 each. We use monies donated to keep a stock pile of toys and activities, purchase bags and coolers, as well as sewing notions for our gowns.  Currently we are also collecting monies to directly go toward Miss Danya's Girl Scout silver project of printing coloring books for keiki in the hospital.  You can donate using the paypal button on the right side of the screen or by following this link.

We are forever grateful for each and every donation.

10 Years Then and Now

Danya is growing up way to fast, somehow it feels like just yesterday they were telling us to prepare for her death. Today we know her as a strong and often determined 10 year old who can add dancing on a Disneyland stage to her resume. While on our visit we took the photo of Danya with a photo of herself 10 years ago next to one of the new isolettes that the hospital just implemented.

Each year we prepare a large donation to deliver on her birthday. Well due to hospital construction and things we were forced to wait a few months to make it happen. Last weekend we were able to make our 10th Birthday drop off, thus kicking off our 10th year of giving.
this was our pile to drop off:
12 Caylee Couture Bereavement gowns
12 Lego sets for Santa's Workshop
10 Sibling Surprise bags
24 Transported Family Bags
34 Bedside organizers
42 Tear blanket hankies

We made drop offs in the Chapel, NICU, and Playroom. It was a big day and we are so grateful for our continued partnership with Kapiolani Medical Center.

We began 2 new projects this year, both of which are represented in our drop off.
Sibling surprise bags, which are small tote bags filled with boredom buster toys for young siblings (5 years and younger) who have a sibling in the NICU.

Sibling Surprise bags were developed by a Girl Scout troop from Ewa Hawaii for use with our other projects. Above you see most of the troop and a couple of the siblings who received the first bags that were dropped off.

Our second new project was inspired by a Big Island Momma who has been doing it for a few months. These are small blankets, about the size of a hanky wrapped up to look like a swaddled blanket for moms who experience a miscarriage. These were donated through the Hospitals Chaplain service to be given out as the need comes.

They are the perfect size for throwing in a bag or purse for whenever tears happen, which is not always expected. They are felt on one side and a cotton on the other. This project does not have a name yet but will soon.

As always keep up with us on Facebook for all our needs and news.

Approaching a Decade....

10 years ago I was pregnant with Danya. Doing all of the things expectant moms do. We had the nursery set, decorations were in place, baby showers were happening. I was waiting. It was summer I was hot. No one knew or had any idea what would come.

In just a few short months we will mark Danya's 10th birthday with the start of our epic 10th year of partnership with the hospital who saved her life. We have begun a collection of items to fill the need. We need so much more than we have on hand. We are in need of plastic shoe boxes, party supplies, small toys, and party favors. We are also in need of funds. If you can please donate we are about $85 short of our goal to be able to buy printed reusable shopping bags for the Stranded family bag project.  Our recent fundraiser with 31 bags did very well but the need is still there. Please consider a donation.

The website will be updating as well in the next few days so please keep an eye out for new content as we anticipate our Decade of Giving!

The transformation of a dress

A few months back we introduced you to Caylee Couture, a new project for Danya's Gift named after a little angel who fought hard her whole, but short life.  I met Caylee's Momma while doing some volunteering at the hospital. She has become one of our board members and when it came time to name this project Caylee was the right choice. When a dress is donated I have promised to take a photo of the dress, and then all that it becomes. These photos will always be shared on our Facebook page. Often it seems like there should be more outfits made out of a gown, but remember that sue to seams and decoration some times parts of the dress end up to small to make a full piece. This means that I save these parts and use them to accessorize or piece together an outfit from the parts of other dresses.

It is fitting then that I share with you Caylee's Grandma's gown's transformation here.
This gown turned into a wrap gown for a preemie
And 3 full term-3 month old outfits.

Gowns are always needed. We are planning a drop off at the end of June, so please consider helping us out.
